Fernan Rahadi, a journalist from Republika, reported from Medina, Saudi Arabia, that Pos Indonesia’s cargo service is experiencing high demand from Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. Pilgrims are utilizing the service to ship various souvenirs, including Qurans, prayer mats, dates, clothing, perfumes, chocolates, camel dolls, and Hajj caps, back to their families in Indonesia.

Pos Indonesia offers a door-to-door pickup service at hotels where Indonesian pilgrims are staying in Mecca. On Friday, May 15, 2026, several staff members were seen assisting pilgrims near the Maysan Al Harithia Hotel in Medina. The company provides cardboard boxes in three sizes: M, L, and XL. Customers simply pack their items, which are then weighed before shipping.

Due to high demand, there are queues, with pilgrims typically waiting around 30 minutes for service. Arithia, a pilgrim from the Solo embarkation point, expressed her appreciation for the service, as it helps reduce the weight of her luggage. She shipped 10 kilograms of items after carefully selecting them.

The cargo service charges approximately 23 Saudi Riyals (around IDR 108,000) per kilogram, with delivery available throughout Indonesia. Pos Indonesia has a proven track record of reliable service over many years. According to Resnu, a Pos Indonesia staff member, shipments typically arrive within seven to 14 days if there are no delays. Some pilgrims send large quantities of goods, with packages weighing over 50 kilograms being shipped to destinations outside Java. Shipping costs can exceed IDR 10 million due to excess weight charges.

The high demand for this service demonstrates the need for a practical shipping solution for pilgrims during their time in Mecca.
