Indonesian Pharmacist Elected as Leader of Asian Pharmaceutical Organisation
JAKARTA — Lilik Yusuf Indrajaya, Secretary General of the Central Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (PP IAI), has been elected as Chairperson of the Medicine Information and Digital Health Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA) for the 2026–2030 period. She received support from 24 member countries during the selection process.
Lilik stated that patient safety will be the primary focus during her leadership in this Asian-level pharmaceutical organisation. According to her, the role of pharmacists is directly related to the safety of medication use in society.
“Pharmacists play an important role in ensuring that medicines are used safely, appropriately, and effectively,” Lilik said in her statement on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
She assessed that there are still significant challenges in the pharmaceutical sector, ranging from medication misuse errors, the circulation of counterfeit drugs, to health information disparities in various Asian countries.
In the future, FAPA will strengthen patient safety programmes through improving health literacy, enhancing pharmaceutical service practices, and building a safety culture from pharmacist professional education.
Lilik previously served as Chairperson of the Medicine Information and Health Information FAPA for the 2022–2026 period. At that time, she was elected through a vote, securing 67 percent and defeating the candidate from the Philippines, Leonila Ocampo.
In her new position, Lilik will lead the development of medicine information and digital health in the Asian region, including the utilisation of data in pharmaceutical services, pharmacovigilance, and health communication.
This work focus also encompasses strengthening evidence-based information systems, ethics in health data usage, and improving patient literacy to support medication therapy safety.
