Indonesian Navy Uncovers Shipment of 16 Tonnes of Tin Sand to PIK Warehouse
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Naval Regional Command (Kodaeral) III apprehended two trucks transporting 16 tonnes of tin sand at the warehouse of PT SIB in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) II area, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Saturday (9/5/2026).
Deputy Commander of Kodaeral III, Brigadier General TNI (Marine) Dian Suryansyah, stated that the enforcement action stemmed from intelligence information received on Thursday (7/5/2026).
The intelligence indicated a shipment of two trucks loaded with tin sand from Tanjung Balai Karimun to Jakarta.
“We received this information from BAIS TNI, as well as from the intelligence team of Lanal Tanjung Balai Karimun, reporting on the shipment of two trucks carrying 16 tonnes of tin sand from Tanjung Balai Karimun to Jakarta,” said Dian during a press conference at Koarmada RI, Gunung Sahari, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/6/2026).
Monitoring was conducted by intelligence units of the Naval Base (Lanal) in Palembang, Lampung, and up to Banten.
“Upon reaching Palembang, the intelligence team from Lanal Palembang detected that the goods were not directed towards Bangka,” he said.
“The movement of both vehicles was continuously monitored until Lampung. The intelligence from Lanal Lampung also monitored that the goods had entered a ship and were about to cross to Java,” he added.
According to Dian, the authorities initially suspected the tin sand cargo would be taken to an official processing facility, either in Bangka or Cilegon.
However, the two trucks instead proceeded to enter the warehousing area in PIK.
“This means the two trucks carrying 16 tonnes of tin sand were not in the operational area for processing or refining tin sand, but instead in the Jakarta city area,” he said.
All evidence was then brought to the Kodaeral III headquarters for further examination.
From initial investigations, the Navy found suspicions regarding the legality of the goods’ ownership and transport documents.
The company transporting the goods was identified as PT Tambang Wancheng Indonesia.
