Indonesian Navy to Use B50 Fuel for Patrol Vessels to Enhance Fuel Efficiency

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL), Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, stated that his organisation will use B50 fuel for patrol vessels as part of efforts to save petroleum fuel (BBM). “Going forward, we will use B50 fuel. B50, of course, will require modifications to the engines on the vessels,” Ali said during a press conference at the Navy Headquarters (Mabes AL) in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Thursday. For context, B50 is a vegetable-based fuel comprising a 50 percent blend of diesel and crude palm oil (CPO). Ali explained that using B50 can reduce the Indonesian Navy’s reliance on fuels derived from crude oil. Furthermore, B50 is considered capable of supporting operations on vessels with high mobility, such as sea patrols up to logistics or troop delivery missions. Ali continued that the use of B50 fuel will be carried out gradually in the near future. “For patrols at the moment, we are still using vessels that run on B35 fuel,” Ali said. With this effort to use B50 fuel, Ali assured that the intensity of vessel patrols at sea will not decrease amid the fuel efficiency period.
