Indonesian Navy to Manage 3,110 New Hectares to Bolster National Soybean Production

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG – TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has confirmed that the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) will support the government’s efforts to strengthen national soybean supplies through the management of farmland in a number of regions.

Agus said the move forms part of efforts to reinforce national food self-sufficiency while reducing Indonesia’s dependence on soybean imports.

“This effort will strengthen food self-sufficiency and reduce import dependence,” Agus said while presenting the food security programme to President Prabowo Subianto at the Simultaneous Grand Harvest event at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base in Malang, East Java, on Friday.

In his presentation, Agus explained that the Navy has already managed 2,432 hectares of soybean land spread across six regions. This land is expected to yield 3,676 tonnes of soybeans, contributing roughly 0.35 per cent of the national soybean production target for 2026.

“The Indonesian Navy is overseeing 2,432 hectares of land with total production of 3,676 tonnes spread across six regions, contributing 0.35 per cent to the national soybean production target for 2026,” Agus said.

To increase production, the Navy is opening a further 3,110 hectares of new land spread across seven regions. The land is being managed by Navy personnel in each of their respective Naval Regional Commands (Kodaeral).

“The estimated harvest reaches 5,287 tonnes,” Agus said.

He stressed that the entire Navy chain of command will optimise the management of this land to produce quality soybeans capable of supporting the government’s food security programme.

Agus expressed hope that the Navy’s involvement in soybean cultivation can strengthen national soybean reserves while supporting the food self-sufficiency target set by the government.
