Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has successfully escorted holidaymakers to Ujung Pier in Surabaya as part of the free mudik programme using the Republic of Indonesia Warship (KRI) Banda Aceh-593 on Thursday (20/3). In an official press release received in Jakarta on Friday, it was explained that the vessel had previously departed with 1,447 holidaymakers from the Kolinlamil Pier in North Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3). The Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service (Kadispenal), Admiral Tunggul, confirmed in Jakarta on Friday that the ship had earlier transported 1,021 holidaymakers to Semarang on Wednesday (18/3). Not only passengers, but the vessel also carried hundreds of two-wheeled vehicles belonging to the holidaymakers. After docking in Semarang, Tunggul continued, the KRI proceeded to Surabaya to transport the remaining holidaymakers. “Through the utilisation of KRI Banda Aceh-593, the holidaymakers can undertake their sea journey with safe and comfortable facilities, supported by TNI AL personnel on duty during the voyage,” said Tunggul. Tunggul assured that they would deploy the KRI again to bring the holidaymakers back to Jakarta during the return flow later. With this effort, he hopes that the presence of TNI AL can ease the burden on the public wishing to mudik during this Eid al-Fitr momentum. “This initiative is also expected to help reduce transportation density during the mudik period and strengthen TNI AL’s presence in assisting the community,” Tunggul concluded.
