Indonesian Navy Strengthens Maritime Cooperation with Australia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Armed Forces Navy (TNI AL) is endeavouring to strengthen maritime cooperation in the areas of joint exercises and defence technology with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
This effort to bolster cooperation was undertaken by holding the Maritime Operations Working Group (MOWG) meeting for 2026 at the Neptunus Building, TNI AL Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29/4).
In an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday, it was explained that TNI AL was represented by Deputy Assistant for Operations (Waasops) to the Navy Chief of Staff, First Admiral TNI Mochammad Riza, while the RAN delegation was led by Joint Force Maritime Component Commander Commodore Troy Van Tienhoven.
Several military cooperations between TNI AL and RAN that have already been established include the joint exercise titled New Horizon and Ausindo Coordinated Patrol, or joint sea patrols.
Not only that, this meeting also discussed the possibility of new, more strategic cooperations to strengthen the sea defence of both countries in the region.
Still in the same press release, it was explained that TNI AL hopes this meeting will benefit Indonesia and enhance TNI AL’s existence in the eyes of the world.
The TNI AL side also hopes that this cooperation will benefit Indonesia in terms of strengthening defence and maritime territory surveillance.
