Jakarta — The Commander of Naval Regional Command III, Rear Admiral Uki Prasetia, stated that the Navy will strengthen security of Jakarta’s maritime region in accordance with alert level 1 orders issued by the TNI Commander through a telegram circulated some time ago.

“Escalation at sea clearly will be implemented through intensified security at certain locations and strategic sectors that we have prioritised, namely national vital objects,” Uki said when met at Naval Regional Command III headquarters in North Jakarta on Monday.

Uki explained that the enhanced security measures are not solely to anticipate the effects of conflict in the Middle East, but also to safeguard passenger ship traffic during the mudik exodus season ahead of Eid celebrations.

“We will implement intensified security at every location, particularly following recent requests from PT Pelindo and PT Pelni to strengthen security, especially at ports and certain locations,” Uki stated.

When asked about the number of ships or personnel to be deployed to secure Jakarta’s waters, Uki did not provide detailed information.

The telegram contains alert level 1 instructions to all TNI ranks to anticipate escalation of conflict in the Middle East, with seven instruction points listed.

One of the points requires the TNI Main Operation Command to deploy personnel and equipment, conduct patrols at strategic vital objects and economic centres. This includes airports, maritime and river ports, train stations, bus terminals, and PLN offices.

Responding to the circulation of the telegram, TNI Central Information Centre Chief Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah told ANTARA on Saturday (7 March) that the TNI has the primary task of protecting the nation and its people from foreign threats.

“The TNI operates professionally and responsively, manifested through consistently maintaining capabilities and strength to remain operationally ready and prepared to anticipate developments in the international, regional, and national strategic environment,” Aulia said in response to confirmation regarding TNI alert level 1.
