Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Indonesian Navy, through Naval Area Command (Kodaeral) III, has strengthened diplomatic relations and military cooperation with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force.

The strengthening of cooperation occurred when the Assistant Operations Officer of Kodaeral III, Colonel (P) Boy Yopi Hamel, welcomed a Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force delegation that arrived aboard the destroyer JS Ikazuchi (DD-107) at Pier 107, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Friday (22 May).

According to an official Indonesian Navy statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, this activity was part of a courtesy visit conducted by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force to the Indonesian Navy.

In the visit to Tanjung Priok, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, represented by Commander Nobukazu Ryuso, was warmly received by Kodaeral III officials.

“The welcoming ceremony, which opened with the traditional ‘Tapak Dara’ dance, proceeded in a simple yet cordial manner,” said a spokesperson.

During the meeting, both parties discussed various matters, including the strengthening of defence cooperation such as joint military exercises.

Various forms of military cooperation, according to the statement, will not only strengthen Indonesia’s maritime defence but also enhance military relations cooperation with Japan in the regional area.

With this meeting, Indonesia hopes that relations between Indonesia and Japan will become increasingly harmonious, enabling both nations to support each other in strengthening maritime defence in their respective regions.
