Indonesian Navy States Multi-Domain Operations Essential to Strengthen Defence
“Therefore, the shift from traditional operations to multi-domain operations is a necessity for survival, not just an option,”
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Assistant Chief of Operations of the Indonesian Navy, Rear Admiral Yayan Sofiyan, stated that the concept of multi-domain operations must be implemented to counter threats from foreign countries amidst the development of modern warfare, as is happening today.
“Therefore, the shift from traditional operations to multi-domain operations is a necessity for survival, not just an option,” said Yayan during a discussion entitled “Indonesia’s Blue Water Transition: Why High-Value ASW/AAW Assets Will Decide Its Credibility,” which was held online on Wednesday.
In his presentation, Yayan said that this defence concept is effective in attacking the enemy’s defence system, starting from physical attacks and infrastructure.
To ensure the success of this concept, Yayan said that strong collaboration is needed between the Army, Navy, Air Force, cyber forces, and space units.
This defence ecosystem from various aspects, Yayan continued, must be built to strengthen attacks on foreign countries that are Indonesia’s adversaries.
In the land domain, attacks can be carried out at narrow and strategic points or choke points in a particular country or region. Subsequent attacks can be carried out via air by attacking a country’s strategic defence points.
Furthermore, Yayan said that the military can carry out naval attacks by deploying warships. Not only that, attacks on underwater infrastructure, such as various fibre optic cables, can also be used to cripple a country’s infrastructure.
“We can cut off their internet network with our special forces, causing internet access to drop. We can disrupt energy access to a country by carrying out sabotage,” said Yayan.
However, Yayan emphasised that these steps can only be taken if Indonesia has decided to go to war based on a decision from the government and the House of Representatives (DPR).
With these swift steps, Yayan is confident that the perspective and decision of the opposing country to fight back against Indonesia will change, so that further battles can be avoided.
