Indonesian Navy Serviceman Pratu (Mar) Zalendra Ferdika Dies During Counter-Terrorism Training
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An Indonesian Navy serviceman, Pratu (Mar) Zalendra Ferdika, died while taking part in a training exercise for the Counter-Terrorism Education, Sea Aspect (PTAL) XVIII cohort on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The Head of Public Information at the Navy’s Doctrine, Education and Training Development Command (Kodiklatal), Colonel (Mar) Nikodemus Balla, expressed condolences on the serviceman’s death. “The Indonesian Navy extends its deepest condolences on the death of Pratu Mar Zalendra Ferdika, the finest Indonesian Navy serviceman who was undergoing training as part of PTAL XVIII,” he said in a statement on Friday, 22 May 2026. He said, after the incident, the relevant authorities immediately carried out handling and evacuation in accordance with applicable procedures. “At present the Indonesian Navy has also undertaken support processes for the family of the deceased, repatriation of the body, and management of the personnel entitlements in accordance with applicable regulations,” he asserted. “The Indonesian Navy ensures that all processes from repatriation to burial will be closely supervised. It also guarantees the rapid and transparent fulfillment of all in-service entitlements of the deceased,” he added. In the midst of a period of mourning, the Navy urged the public and media to keep public spaces calm by not disseminating unverified visual documentation or information. “The Indonesian Navy extends its deepest thanks for the prayers, attention, and understanding shown by the public,” he said. Nikodemus pledged that all official developments related to the incident would be communicated periodically.
