Indonesian Navy Sends Warship and Special Forces to Join Military Exercise in Russia

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) is dispatching a Republic of Indonesia warship (KRI) as well as special forces to take part in a joint Indonesia-Russia combat exercise, Orruda 2026, in Vladivostok, Russia.

“We are sending various elements to take part in Orruda 2026, including the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332, helicopters, Kopaska forces, divers and a medical team,” said Navy Chief of Information (Kadispenal) First Admiral TNI Tunggul at a press conference at Navy Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Monday.

Tunggul said the Indonesian Navy’s participation aims to continue the series of joint Orruda exercises previously held in Indonesia, specifically in the Java Sea in 2024.

In addition, Tunggul said the exercise also aims to strengthen military and bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.

He explained that the Indonesian Navy has made preparations for Orruda, from personnel selection to training in various combat manoeuvres to be performed in Russia.

Tunggul expressed hope that the Indonesian Navy’s presence at Orruda will strengthen its partnership with the Russian military while also raising Indonesia’s profile on the international stage.

At present, the KRI IGN-332 and its accompanying forces are still en route to Russia for Orruda 2026.

The international-level joint exercise will be held from 7 July 2026 to 18 August 2026.
