Indonesian Navy saves NTT earthquake victim through surgery aboard KRI

The Indonesian Navy has saved an earthquake victim in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by carrying out medical surgery aboard the KRI dr. Soeharso-990 on Saturday (22/8).

In an official press release received in Jakarta on Sunday, the operation was carried out so that the victim could recover optimally.

Head of the Navy Information Service (Kadispenal) First Admiral TNI I Tunggul, when confirmed in Jakarta, said the earthquake victim was named Arnol Dus.

“Arnol Dus suffered the incident on 15 August 2026 after the wall of his house collapsed and fell on him due to the 7.7-magnitude earthquake. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a fracture to his left shoulder and a pelvic fracture,” said Tunggul.

The victim was eventually brought to the KRI dr. Soeharso-990 to receive medical treatment. After arriving on board, the victim was received at the Emergency Department (IGD) by Navy Lieutenant (K) Dr Aditya Firmansyah and immediately given initial medical treatment.

“After further examination, the victim was then treated and operated on by Navy Lieutenant Colonel (K) Dr Pieter Giarso, Sp.OT, an orthopaedic specialist belonging to the Indonesian Navy,” explained Tunggul.

He continued that the operation, which began at 08.00 WIT, was completed and ran successfully. Tunggul stressed that this success is a form of the Navy’s commitment to helping earthquake victims in NTT.

Tunggul confirmed that the ship will continue to be stationed near the earthquake location to provide health services to residents affected by the earthquake.
