Indonesian Navy Reveals Details on Ghofirul Kasyfi's Autopsy: No Evidence of Violence
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The First Fleet Command (Koarmada I) has spoken out regarding the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) sailor, Leading Seaman Ghofirul Kasyfi (22), who was found dead in one of the cabins of the Republic of Indonesia Ship (KRI) dr. Radjiman Widyodiningrat-992.
This statement comes after the family of Ghofirul expressed suspicions about anomalies on the deceased’s body.
The family also linked it to Ghofirul’s complaints before he was found lifeless.
Head of the Information Service (Kadispen) of Koarmada I, Colonel (N) Ary Mahayasa, stated that the victim died by suicide, not due to violence.
“The results of the medical examination conclude that the cause of death of the deceased was purely due to hanging, not because of any violent acts,” said Ary in his statement on Monday (4/5/2026).
Based on the official visum et repertum results from the Navy Central Hospital (RSPAL) dr. Mintohardjo, Jakarta, dated 26 April 2026, no signs of blunt force trauma were found on the victim’s body.
“No bleeding was found in the groin area as per the circulating information. The autopsy examination was also attended by representatives of the deceased’s family,” he emphasised.
Medically, the pattern and characteristics of the wounds are identical to hanging cases.
The bruises visible before the burial were livor mortis, a definitive sign of death due to the cessation of blood circulation, causing red blood cells to settle in the lowest parts of the body due to gravity.
Meanwhile, the visit by TNI AL personnel to the deceased’s home was because the individual had been absent several times during personnel checks on the ship.
“Therefore, the KRI requested assistance from the Batuporon Naval Base (Lanal Batuporon) to visit the residence and inquire about the deceased’s whereabouts,” he explained.
Regarding legal steps, Ary revealed that on 30 April 2026, the family, represented by the biological mother of the deceased, stated their refusal of an autopsy, which has been documented officially.
The victim has now been given a military burial on 27 April 2026 at the Kemayoran Public Cemetery, Bangkalan, East Java.
