Indonesian Navy Marines Showcase MLRS Vampire Rocket Launcher at Super Garuda Shield

The Indonesian Navy Marine Corps deployed one of its primary weapon systems, the MLRS Vampire—a 122mm calibre rocket launcher system—during the Super Garuda Shield (SGS) joint military exercise on Friday (4/9).

According to a press release from the Marine Corps received in Jakarta on Saturday, the missile firing exercise was conducted at the Baturaja Combat Training Centre in South Sumatra. The exercise aimed to test the capabilities of both the weaponry and the personnel operating it.

During the event, other participating nations in SGS 2026 also showcased their rocket launcher systems, including the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) from the United States. The press release noted that the entire series of exercises was completed successfully without any incidents.

Through these exercises, it is expected that the proficiency of personnel in utilising weaponry will increase, while fostering harmonious relations between the personnel of each participating nation.

The SGS 2026 event involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries, who have gathered in Indonesia to test troop operational readiness, defence diplomacy, and the ability to face various security challenges.

The Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Agus Subiyanto, stated that SGS is an annual exercise held across various regions of Indonesia from 31 August to 11 September 2026.

“Super Garuda Shield is held annually in Indonesia. There are 21 countries present this year, with a total of 4,743 personnel participating across 12 different training modules,” said Agus in Bandung, West Java, on Monday (31/8).

The 21 participating nations include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
