Indonesian Navy Foils Tin Smuggling Attempt in Riau Islands
The Indonesian Navy has successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 1.6 tonnes of tin sand to Malaysia. The operation was carried out by personnel from the Dabo Singkep Naval Base, under the command of Fleet Command IV, in the waters of Pekajang Besar, Lingga Regency, Kepulauan Riau. The smugglers used a floating fish cage as a modus operandi to conceal the illegal shipment. In addition to the tin sand, the Navy seized one rifle and one airsoft gun. One suspect was taken into custody. The evidence and the suspect were presented at a press conference at the Dabo Singkep Naval Base on Monday, 3 August 2026.
