Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Navy personnel from the Aru Naval Base (Lanal Aru) distributed basic food parcels to fishermen in the Aru Islands sea area on Wednesday (5 March). In an official press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday, it was explained that the activity was conducted to support the livelihoods of fishermen. In addition, the activity is part of the Operation Trisila-26 programme, designed to guarantee sovereignty, law enforcement, and security in Indonesia’s waters. Commander of Lanal Aru, Colonel (Navy) Sriadi, in the press release said that this operation Trisila-26 proves that the presence of the Indonesian Navy in border areas is not solely oriented toward defence, but also social concern. “Providing basic food parcels is expected to help lighten the burden on fishermen who face fluctuating catches due to weather and economic conditions,” Sriadi said. Sriadi continued, the team deliberately chose the method of distributing basic food parcels from the deck of a ship at sea so that the Navy personnel could have a close relationship with the fishermen. He added that the fishermen also looked enthusiastic about the on-sea distribution activity. Through this activity, Sriadi hopes the Navy’s presence will not only provide a sense of security to coastal communities but also enhance the income of fishermen.
