Indonesian Navy deploys hospital ship to treat earthquake victims in NTT

The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has deployed KRI dr. Soeharso-990 to provide medical assistance and oxygen supplies to residents affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Head of the Navy Information Service (Kadispenal) Admiral Tunggul said in a press release received in Jakarta on Tuesday that many residents have received medical treatment while the hospital ship has been docked in the NTT region.

“KRI dr. Soeharso-990 is providing health services to the community in need. The victims are receiving medical examinations and treatment, as well as support in the form of medicines and other health necessities,” said Tunggul.

He added that several patients have undergone surgical procedures on board the ship. The operations were carried out by a Navy medical team consisting of professional doctors.

In addition to providing services on board the ship, KRI personnel have also been distributing oxygen cylinders to residents at the earthquake site.

“The availability of oxygen is an important part of patient care, particularly for victims suffering from respiratory problems or conditions requiring emergency oxygen,” Tunggul said.

Tunggul did not provide details on the number of patients treated on board the ship during its deployment in NTT, nor did he specify the number of oxygen cylinders distributed.

He only confirmed that the ship will continue to operate in the NTT region until the area recovers following the earthquake.
