JAKARTA (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) conducted a joint combat exercise with the Pakistan Navy to strengthen maritime defence and bolster diplomatic ties between the two nations.

In a press release issued on Monday, the event took place in Jakarta waters and the Java Sea on Friday, 22 May.

Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, Chief of the Military Headquarters Public Affairs (Kapuspen), confirmed to ANTARA in Jakarta that both countries deployed their best naval assets during the drill.

“TNI AL deployed KRI Bung Karno-369, KRI Wiratno-379, and Panther HS-1311 helicopters. The Pakistan Navy contributed vessels including PNS TAIMUR, PNS ASLAT, and the submarine PNSS HANGOR,” Nas stated.

He added that the exercises included tactical manoeuvring, photo exercises (PHOTEX), and search and rescue drills (SAREX) simulating maritime rescue operations.

Nas noted the drills were conducted under strict safety protocols to ensure the security of personnel and equipment.

He confirmed the exercise was successful, expressing hope it would strengthen bilateral relations and enhance the Indonesian Navy’s combat readiness.

The joint drill was the culmination of Pakistan Navy’s five-day official visit to Indonesia starting 18 May 2026, which included meetings with senior military officials, friendly sports matches, diplomatic banquets, city tours, and open ship events.
