Indonesian Navy and Pakistan Navy Maneuver in the Java Sea

Jakarta — A Pakistan Navy submarine was in the Java Sea, with Indonesian Navy warships nearby as they manoeuvred during a joint exercise named Teman E Bahr off the Java Sea north of Jakarta. The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Pakistan Navy conducted the exercise, which involved surface ships, helicopters and submarines from both countries. In a press release from the Navy Information Service, the exercise on Friday 22 May 2026 involved surface combatants, a helicopter and a submarine. ‘The Indonesian Navy deployed KRI Bung Karno-369, KRI Wiratno-379, and Panther HS-1311 helicopter,’ the statement said, quoted on Saturday 23 May 2026. The exercise took place as part of a series of visits by the Pakistan Navy to Jakarta since 18 May 2026. ‘A number of training activities were simulated, including Tactical Maneuvering Exercise, Photo Exercise (PHOTEX), and Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX), which simulated search and rescue operations at sea,’ the statement said. The exercise was then closed with a farewell pass, a ceremonial manoeuvre of respect, after the joint training. The activity included official visits among military officials, camaraderie sport, official banquets, city tours, and an open ship for the public and TNI AL personnel. ‘The success of Latma Teman E Bahr is a tangible testament to the strength of maritime diplomacy built between Indonesia and Pakistan.’ This joint exercise forms part of Indonesia-Pakistan maritime cooperation and helps strengthen the two navies’ relations.
