Indonesian Navy Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Hasanuddin Airport, Crew Safe
A Cassa aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Navy that skidded off the runway at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, is believed to have been landing at the time.
PGS Branch Communication & CSR Department Head of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia for Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Taufan Yudhistira, said the incident began when his office received a report from Air Traffic Control (ATC) regarding the Navy Cassa aircraft skidding on runway 03-21 while landing and ultimately veering off course.
“As soon as the tower informed airport personnel, they went directly to the scene and immediately carried out handling,” Taufan told reporters on Tuesday (25/8).
Taufan explained that the Cassa aircraft skidded on a different runway from the Sukhoi SU-30 MK2 incident on Monday (24/8).
Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport has two runway alignments: North-South, or Runway 03-21, and East-West, or Runway 13-31.
“So yesterday’s incident was on a different runway. Yesterday’s incident was on Runway 13-31, and today’s was on Runway 03-21,” he said.
Nevertheless, Taufan said the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities. All crew members were confirmed to be safe.
“Based on information we received from the field, there were no fatalities or injuries. All passengers have been evacuated by personnel and handed over to the relevant entities,” he explained.
Taufan said flights at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport were not disrupted following the incident.
“All runways are operating normally for flights. Airport operations are also normal. Everything is normal,” he said.
Meanwhile, as of the time this report was written, the Navy Regional Command (Kodaeral) IV Makassar had not yet provided a statement regarding the incident.
