Indonesian National Police Uncover Subsidised LPG Misuse, 910 Cylinders Seized!
The Directorate of Specific Crimes (Dittipidter) of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskram Polri) has uncovered the misuse of subsidised 3kg LPG, where the contents were being transferred into non-subsidised 12kg and 50kg cylinders in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, Banten.
The disclosure took place on Wednesday (16/09/2026) after investigators received information regarding the practice of transferring subsidised LPG. From two locations, officers detained five individuals for questioning and seized 910 LPG cylinders.
The Director of Specific Crimes of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, stated that the evidence seized consisted of 560 units of 3kg LPG cylinders, 12 units of 5.5kg LPG cylinders, 318 units of 12kg LPG cylinders, and 20 units of 50kg LPG cylinders. Additionally, 35 modified regulators, four cars, and two scales were confiscated.
“Based on the results of the examination and case presentation, investigators have named one suspect, identified by the initials E, alias HB,” said Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni in a statement on Thursday (17/09/2026).
Brigadier General Irhamni explained that the suspect obtained the subsidised 3kg LPG from stalls, grocery stores, and distribution bases, only to transfer it into non-subsidised cylinders using modified regulators. To fill one 12kg cylinder, the contents of four 3kg cylinders are required, while a 50kg cylinder requires 17 units of 3kg cylinders.
For these actions, the suspect faces charges under Article 40, number 9 of Law Number 6 of 2023, with a maximum prison sentence of six years and a fine of up to Rp60 billion. State losses resulting from this practice are estimated to reach Rp159.6 million.
“The Dittipidter Bareskrim Polri is committed to continuing law enforcement against the misuse of subsidised goods to ensure that government subsidies are accurately targeted and received by the rightful members of the community,” Irhamni asserted.
He also urged the public to report any suspected misuse of subsidised fuel or gas to the nearest police station.
