Indonesian National Police Strengthen Forest and Land Fire Prevention and Control in Several Regions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is strengthening the prevention and control of forest and land fires (karhutla) across several regions in Indonesia.
Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Relations Division of Polri, stated in a briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday that this reinforcement is outlined in the National Police Chief’s Telegram Number ST/1895/VIII/OPS.1.2./2026, dated 31 August 2026, addressed to all Regional Police Chiefs (Kapolda).
Through this telegram, regional police ranks have been instructed to undertake several strategic and integrated steps to prevent and tackle forest and land fires within their respective jurisdictions.
“Polri is strengthening forest and land fire prevention and control efforts by prioritising preparedness, cross-sector synergy, and community involvement. Prevention is the primary step to ensure that fire potential can be minimised and does not escalate into a wider disaster,” he said.
Furthermore, coordination with local governments and relevant agencies—such as the Environmental Agency (DLH), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Forestry Service, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), plantation companies, and other stakeholders—is being bolstered to implement prevention and mitigation measures.
