Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, has affirmed that the force will handle firmly and transparently the case of Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer Brigadier First Class Masias Siahaya, who was found to have assaulted two students in Southeast Maluku, resulting in the death of one of them.

"The National Police are firmly committed to the law enforcement process and the code of ethics against the individual involved, in a transparent and accountable manner," Johnny said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Johnny said the National Police invited the victims' families and all members of the public to jointly oversee the law enforcement process against the individual police officer involved, to ensure it proceeds in accordance with prevailing legal principles and is transparent and accountable.

Furthermore, the National Police also issued an apology for the actions of the individual officer, which were deemed inconsistent with the values of Tribrata and Catur Prasetya, and which risk undermining public trust in the police institution.

He expressed deep condolences over the death of a victim in the incident involving the rogue police officer.

Johnny further stated that the National Police shared in the grief and extended empathy to the victim's family over the incident.

The police also stated they would continue to pray for and support the victim's family, hoping they would be granted fortitude and strength in facing the tragedy.

The perpetrator, who was stationed at Brimob Pioneer C Headquarters, also assaulted Nasrim Karim (15), Arianto's older brother, causing him to suffer broken bones.
