Indonesian National Police Ensure Stability Amidst Installation of Fences by Shopping Malls
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Indonesian National Police’s Senior Assistant for Operations, Commissioner General Fadil Imran, has ensured that the situation in Indonesia remains conducive, responding to the installation of high fences by several malls and shopping centres.
“As of today, based on the daily operating reporting system, there is nothing prominent, nothing at all,” Fadim stated in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to him, the installation of fences by property owners, such as malls, is a normal occurrence. Therefore, he requested that the public not be provoked by narratives suggesting that security and public order (kamtibmas) will be disrupted.
“I believe it is common for people to fence their homes. Do not allow narratives to be built as if building a fence will lead to something happening. I do not believe that is the correct interpretation,” he said.
Entering August, Fadil mentioned that no special anticipatory measures are being taken because, in principle, the police are always on alert.
“We are guarding every day. Brimob (Mobile Brigade) is on standby, Sabhara (Patrol) is on standby. So there are no special anticipations; it is business as usual, we are always on alert,” he added.
Several malls in Jakarta have reportedly installed high fences in recent days. Responding to this, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung requested that managers do not be overly worried, as the capital’s condition is safe.
“Regarding the installation of fences, I have also observed this. It may be part of a concern, but at the appropriate time, I will certainly request that those fences be removed again,” said Pramono on Friday (30/7).
He highlighted the event, noting it reminded him of protests and unrest in August 2025. The Jakarta Provincial Government is coordinating with the TNI/Polri (Military/Police) and other relevant parties to maintain security and order in Jakarta.
“Hopefully, Jakarta remains safe, comfortable, and brings joy to everyone enjoying the city, just as we are all enjoying Blok M today,” the Governor said.
Meanwhile, the Special Advisor to the President for Communication and Media, Hasan Nasbi, urged the public to verify the truth of information that could trigger fear amidst circulating issues regarding potential security disruptions.
“We must not amplify bad news. News that spreads fear should be clarified. Journalists can check this themselves; you can perform fact-checks to see if the ‘fear mongering’ currently circulating is true,” Hasan said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Friday (30/7).
He stated that the public needs to remain optimistic as the country’s condition is good and the government continues to implement various programmes.
He cited the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and over one hundred officials from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Indonesia, which involved two-way communication. During the meeting, various inputs from business actors were well-received by the President.
