Indonesian National Police Chief Applauds KSPSI for Campaigning for Workers' Rights: Orderly and Constructive
The Indonesian National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has expressed appreciation to the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI). He said KSPSI has succeeded in being an example of how the struggle to demand rights can be conducted in an elegant, orderly, and constructive manner.
He said this at a Ramadan gathering and breaking of the fast with KSPSI West Java at PT NOK, Cikarang, on Friday (6/3/2026). On that occasion, General Sigit thanked KSPSI for consistently fighting for workers’ welfare.
‘One thing I would like to say is thank you to the KSPSI colleagues who, for a long time, have fought for workers’ aspirations but carried this out in a good, constructive way,’ General Sigit told the workers present.
According to General Sigit, the approach KSPSI chose has proven far more effective in achieving the goals they seek. ‘And alhamdulillah, all that has been fought for has turned out to be successful,’ he said.
He hopes the strategy of action employed by KSPSI can become a role model for other elements of society in publicly expressing opinions.
General Sigit highlighted the success of KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea, who recently was received by the House of Representatives while advocating for the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (UU Ciptaker) and the Household Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT). Not only in parliament, their aspirations were also directly received by President Prabowo Subianto.
‘The other day Mr Andi together with his team were received by the DPR while advocating for UU Ciptaker, including UU PRT. Earlier, they were received by the President,’ he said.
The former head of the Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Kabareskrim) emphasised that actions conducted in an orderly manner will not weaken the workers’ movement or cause it to be undervalued. On the contrary, maturity in democracy opens the door to dialogue.
‘When we, the big ones, go down to the field, yet we are orderly, constructive, we show that we are big but we obey the rules, the message conveyed is heard,’ he said.
Therefore, he hopes that the synergy and methods of struggle such as this will be maintained. He believes that with a good but targeted approach, all workers’ aspirations can be achieved.
‘The hope for the future is that the aspirations of our fellow workers, through the manner in which we conduct this, can be achieved in line with everyone’s hopes,’ he concluded.
Present at the scene were KSPSI Advisory Council members: Kabaintelkam Polri General Commissioner Yuda Gustawan (Industrial Relations Conflict Mitigation), General Commissioner Imam Widodo (Organisational), Ferriyady Hartadinata (UMKM and Cooperatives), Inspector General (ret.) Cahyono Wibowo (Law Enforcement).
The Police Chief was accompanied by Kabareskrim Polri General Commissioner Syahardiantono, Polri Public Relations Head Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, Director General of Medical and Forensic Services Inspector General Asep Hendradiana, Karobinkar SSDM Polri Brigadier General Langgeng Purnomo.
