An Indonesian national (WNI) was found dead after jumping into a lake in Selangor, Malaysia. Staff from the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur attempted to rescue the victim, although unsuccessfully.

The incident occurred in the Lake Valley area of Bandar Tun Hussein Onn in Selangor on 9 March 2026. The embassy had initially received a report from local residents about a homeless individual believed to be an Indonesian who had been in the public facility area for several days.

On 9 March at 15:30 local time, embassy staff travelled to the location to speak with the individual and offer temporary shelter at the embassy’s transit facility. However, upon arrival, the staff could not immediately locate the person, as they had left the area and were seen moving towards the lake.

The individual was then observed jumping into Lake Valley. Embassy staff who witnessed the incident made a heroic rescue attempt by jumping into the lake themselves to save the person. However, due to difficult terrain conditions and limitations in reaching the victim, the rescue operation was unsuccessful and the individual could not be located.

Local residents witnessed the incident. The embassy coordinated with local police, who arrived with Malaysian fire department personnel and immediately conducted initial search operations.

As the initial search proved unsuccessful, Malaysian fire department personnel deployed a dive team around 22:10 that evening to continue searching in the water. During this search, the victim was eventually found deceased. The body was taken to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) for further handling.

Embassy staff have provided official testimony as witnesses to Malaysian police regarding the incident. The Indonesian Embassy expressed condolences on the death of the national. The embassy continues to monitor the autopsy process at HUKM and is tracing the victim’s family in coordination with relevant Indonesian agencies.
