Indonesian MSMEs Require Standardisation to Scale Up

Ilham Permana, a member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has expressed his desire for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia to successfully scale up their operations.

“MSMEs are the backbone of this nation’s economy. Therefore, we must encourage MSMEs to continue developing and moving up the value chain,” stated Ilham during the Socialisation of Standardisation and Conformity Assessment for MSMEs, held alongside the National Standardisation Agency (BSN) at the Grand Bydel Hotel, Cianjur, on Wednesday (16/09/202ng).

According to Ilham, the strength of MSMEs lies not only in the large number of business actors but also in their ability to maintain quality, meet standards, and remain competitive. In an increasingly open market, standardisation serves as a key driver. Products that adhere to established standards can more easily gain consumer trust and possess the opportunity to penetrate wider markets.

Consequently, this socialisation event is considered urgent for the community in Cianjur, which is currently striving towards becoming a potential economic region.

One participant, Budi, an MSME owner, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. Budi hopes that such socialisation does not stop at mere understanding but is followed by continuous mentoring and ease of access for MSMEs to meet various standardisation requirements. For small business owners, scaling up is not just about turnover, but also about quality and trust.

The event, held from morning until afternoon at the Grand Bydiel Hotel in Cianjur, was attended with great enthusiasm by hundreds of participants, including MSME owners, youths, and students interested in entering the MSME sector. They expressed a strong desire to become successful MSME entrepreneurs capable of competing amidst the tightening business competition at both the Cianjur and West Java regional levels.
