Indonesian MP: Killing Khamenei Violates International Law
An Indonesian MP from the House of Representatives’ Commission I, Oleh Soleh, condemned the joint strike by Israel and the United States that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Oleh Soleh said the US-Israel action constitutes murder of a head of state or a grave breach of international law. The PKB politician said the killing cannot be justified for any reason.
“The murder of a country’s leader is a serious breach of international law. It is not only an attack on an individual, but also on the sovereignty of a state,” Oleh Soleh said in a written statement cited on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
Oleh assessed that the unprovoked strike by Israel and the United States has sparked chaos and escalation. Thus, the US-Israel military aggression has sullied the spirit of world peace and damaged the international commitment to peace.
Oleh also highlighted how Israel and the United States have repeatedly attacked but to date have faced firm sanctions from the international community. He called on the United Nations (UN) to take decisive action against Israel and the United States.
Moreover, he said, Iran is a legitimate member of the United Nations with all rights guaranteed by international law and conventions. “The international community must not continually allow practices that violate international law to occur without consequences. If left unchecked, the global order will become increasingly damaged,” he said.
Tensions in the Middle East intensified after the United States and Israel launched a joint assault on Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026. US President Donald Trump announced that the strike killed Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated by launching waves of missiles and drones at Israel and at several Middle Eastern military bases where US forces operate.
The conflict shows no signs of abating. Daily Mail reported on 2 March 2026 that Donald Trump disclosed the possibility that the war with Iran could last for four weeks.
In an official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there was no formal condemnation of the attack by Israel and the United States against Iran. The government expressed regret over the failure of negotiations between the US and Iran, which has affected the escalation of military activity in the Middle East.
