Jakarta, VIVA — Indonesia’s vehicle modification and aftermarket industry continues to seek room for expansion amid increasingly competitive global markets. In recent years, industry players have not only focused on the domestic market but have begun actively opening access to international exhibitions as part of their positioning and branding strategy.

One such initiative was undertaken by the National Modificator & Aftermarket Association (NMAA) through its “NMAA Great of Indonesia” programme at Osaka Auto Messe, held from 13 to 15 February 2026 at Intex Osaka, Japan. The event is recognised as one of Japan’s largest modification exhibitions and serves as a showcase for aftermarket trends across the Asian region.

IMX Project Director and Director of Modification and Electric Vehicles at the Indonesian Automobile Association (IMI) central board, Andre Mulyadi, described the participation as part of efforts to broaden the exposure of the national modification industry.

“Our presence at OAM 2026 is a declaration that Indonesia’s modification and aftermarket industry is no longer merely a local champion, but a new force to be reckoned with globally. We are bringing work that combines future technology with strong cultural roots,” Andre said in a statement on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

The featured vehicle was a Toyota 86 themed “Harmony of Waves,” named Milly. Its concept blended the visual imagery of Japanese ukiyo-e waves with the Mega Mendung batik motif from Cirebon. The design approach highlighted cultural storytelling within exterior modification, including graphic work and body detailing.

Beyond exhibiting the car, NMAA also brought a range of local aftermarket products, from paints and custom lights to wheels and other modification accessories. Cross-sector creative collaborations were also showcased to reinforce the narrative that vehicle modification is part of the broader creative industry ecosystem.

During the event, NMAA also presented two awards to modified cars at the exhibition. The NMAA Favourite Built To Perfection award was given to a modified Mazda RX-7 by Miyoshi, recognised for its precision detailing work.

Meanwhile, the NMAA Favourite Proper Modified Car award went to a Toyota GR 86 by Kuhl Outroad, which combined a racing concept with suspension adjustments for varied driving requirements.

Osaka Auto Messe Executive Committee Chairman Toshiya Miyaki expressed appreciation for the Indonesian booth concept. “The NMAA booth at Osaka Auto Messe 2026 looked proper and appealing. The booth concept and car modification were well harmonised, and the product display they brought was also attractive and worth attention,” he said.
