Indonesian Military Deployed to Handle Flash Floods in Solok

Padang (ANTARA) - Hundreds of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel have been deployed to the site of natural flash floods in Solok, West Sumatra, since Tuesday night to assist in disaster management, announced Brigadier General TNI Aji Mimbarno, Commander of Korem 032 Wirabraja, on Tuesday.

“Hundreds of TNI personnel have been on-site since Monday night and continued through Tuesday morning,” said the Commander of Korem 032 Wirabraja in Padang.

He stated that the hundreds of deployed personnel are drawn from Kodim 0309/Solok and the 951/PM Battalion.

The primary task assigned to the personnel is to provide handling and assistance to the community affected by the natural disaster.

The flash flood, which struck on Tuesday night, brought not only water but also landslide debris consisting of sand, rocks, and mud.

The Commander also ordered the TNI to conduct search and rescue operations for two residents reported missing following the disaster.

He explained that Kodim 0309/Solok has also deployed heavy machinery to support the operations and manage the impact of the disaster, which has damaged local residential areas.

The flash flood was reported to have occurred in the Arosuka area, Solok, on Monday at approximately 20:00 WIB, after the region had been lashed by heavy rain since around 18:00 WIB.
