Lubuk Basung (ANTARA) — The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have completed construction of an armco bridge in Jorong Pauah Taruno, Nagari Koto Malintang, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, with plans for its inauguration on 23 February 2026.

Commander of Military District Command (Dandim) 0304/Agam, Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Slamet Dwi Santoso, said in Lubuk Basung on Tuesday that progress on the armco bridge — measuring six metres in length and six metres in width — had reached 90 per cent.

"Construction progress has reached 90 per cent and, God willing, it will be inaugurated on 23 February 2026," he said whilst inspecting the bridge construction alongside Agam Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) member Alber and local nagari government officials.

He said the bridge had been built over a period of 12 days, involving dozens of TNI personnel and local residents.

The enthusiasm of the community and TNI, together with the Nagari Koto Malintang administration, enabled the work to proceed swiftly and without complications on the ground. The full support of DPRD Agam member Alber also helped accelerate the construction.

"With support from all parties, construction has proceeded well. We are ready to help rebuild bridges damaged by the flash floods that struck the area," he said.

Meanwhile, DPRD Agam member Alber added that the Sungai Sapek bridge in Jorong Pauah Taruno, Nagari Koto Malintang, Tanjung Raya District, had been damaged by flash floods that struck the area on 27 November 2025.

As a result, transport access for residents carrying agricultural produce and for schoolchildren was significantly disrupted, as they were forced to take detours through other areas.

"With the inter-village connecting bridge damaged, Dandim 0304 Agam built an armco bridge to facilitate community access," he said.

Jorong Ambacang village head Iswandi expressed gratitude to the TNI and the DPRD Agam member for building the bridge, which is expected to be completed within the coming days.

As a show of support, community members participated in the construction and contributed daily food and drink provisions for the workers.
