Indonesian Marines Teach Jungle Survival at RIMPAC 2026

Personnel from the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps taught jungle survival techniques to soldiers from various participating nations during the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2026 in Hawaii, United States, on Tuesday (30/06).

“Indonesian Marines are not only sharing their capabilities but also learning from the experiences of other nations. This exchange of knowledge serves as vital capital for facing the challenges of future joint operations,” said the Commander of the Indonesian Marine Task Element for RIMPAC 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Huda Prawira, in an official press release from the Marine Corps received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Huda explained that this material was selected because TNI personnel frequently conduct operations in Indonesia’s forested and mountainous regions, providing them with significant experience in surviving such conditions.

Marine Corps personnel shared various jungle survival techniques, ranging from identifying edible plants and animals to methods for adapting to the environment.

Following the instruction session, Indonesian Navy Marine Corps personnel also participated in knowledge-sharing sessions from other national contingents. The Sri Lankan contingent introduced various snake species found in their country, including their characteristics and handling procedures, while the Peruvian contingent presented jungle patrol tactics used in forest-based operations.

Huda stated that these activities are expected to broaden the insights and capabilities of Marine Corps personnel while strengthening military relations with friendly nations.

RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise, held every two years. This year’s exercise runs from 24 June to 31 July 2026, featuring a series of land, sea, and air training activities.

Since the commencement of RIMPAC 2026, the Indonesian Navy Marine Corps, alongside other national contingents, has participated in various drills, including close-quarters combat simulations and air-to-ground attack operations.
