Indonesian Marines Teach Jungle Survival at RIMPAC 2026

Indonesian Marine Corps personnel taught jungle survival techniques to soldiers from various countries participating in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2026 in Hawaii, United States, on Tuesday (30/6). Commander of the Indonesian Marine Task Unit for RIMPAC 2026, Marine Lieutenant Colonel Huda Prawira, said in an official press release that Indonesian marines not only shared their capabilities but also learned from the experiences of other nations. He stated that this exchange of knowledge is an important asset for facing the challenges of future joint operations. Huda explained that the material was chosen because Indonesian soldiers frequently conduct operations in the country’s forests and mountains, giving them experience in surviving under such conditions. The Marine Corps personnel shared various jungle survival techniques, ranging from identifying types of edible plants and animals to ways of adapting to the environment. After delivering the material, the Indonesian Marine Corps personnel also participated in knowledge-sharing sessions from other national contingents. The Sri Lankan contingent introduced various types of snakes found in their country along with their characteristics and handling methods. Meanwhile, the Peruvian contingent presented jungle patrol tactics used in operations within forested areas. Huda said the activity is expected to broaden the insight and capabilities of Marine Corps personnel while strengthening military relations with friendly nations. RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise, held every two years. This year’s exercise runs from 24 June to 31 July 2026, featuring a series of land, sea, and air drills. Since the start of RIMPAC 2026, the Indonesian Marine Corps, along with contingents from other countries, has participated in various exercises, including close-quarters battle simulations and air assault operations.
