Indonesian maid's attacker jailed
SINGAPORE: Singapore housewife Lim Kim Luan, 33, who claimed
the injuries on her Indonesian maid were self-inflicted, was
sentenced to 10 months in jail for scalding and kicking the young
woman, the Straits Times reported Saturday.
Tri Handayani Wiryo Sukarto, 18, testified during the four-day
trial that she was washing clothing on June 21 when Lim suddenly
kicked her.
Lim then poured hot water on her back and neck and tried to
pour more on her face, the maid said, but she blocked it and the
water splashed onto her arm. Tri Handayani kept on washing the
clothing because she was scared of Lim.
Lim claimed Tri Handayani had concocted the story. She said
the maid had bitten her baby, the scalding was an accident and
the other injuries were self-inflicted. --DPA
