Indonesian maid dies in HK

HONG KONG: An Indonesian domestic helper died on Friday after falling from her employer' apartment when she was bringing in the laundry.

Police spokeswoman Carrie So said the death of the 23-year-old maid appears to have been an accident as the woman was standing on a stool and leaning out of the window to retrieve the laundry when she fell.

The apartment was more than 20 floors above ground level. So said she was unable to identify the maid by name or to provide her hometown in Indonesia.

Hundreds of thousands of foreigners are employed in Hong Kong as live-in maids, with some 83,000 from Indonesia. --AP
