Indonesian-Made Satellite to Launch in India in 2027

The Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arief Satria, has revealed that Indonesia will launch a satellite produced by the nation’s own experts in India in early January 2027. The launch is part of strengthening space cooperation between Indonesia and India, which has been ongoing, particularly in the field of satellite monitoring. “So far, BRIN and ISRO, as India’s space agency, have been collaborating on monitoring satellites in Biak. The location is in Biak, and we monitor the circulation of satellites from India,” Arief said on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. The satellite is planned for launch in January 2027. “Secondly, we will conduct the launch of a satellite produced by BRIN in India, God willing, in early January 2027, namely a BRIN-made satellite,” he stated. He explained that the satellite is designed to support various national strategic needs, ranging from food security to environmental monitoring. “A satellite for food security, for environmental monitoring, and for various purposes related to satellite imagery,” he clarified. According to him, Indonesia’s success in producing its own satellite is an important milestone in the development of national space technology. It demonstrates an increase in domestic research and innovation capacity in the aerospace sector. “I think this is progress because we are now able to produce our own satellite,” he said.
