Indonesian lifter sets Asian mark

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian lifters got off to a flying start during the Asian Powerlifting Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan when Sutrisno broke a meet record on his way to clinching a pair of gold medals on Thursday.

Competing in the 60 kilogram division, short but muscular Sutrisno made a flawless 261.10 kg lift in the squat-to-hoist that shattered the old mark of 260.10kgs he set two years ago, also giving him the first gold medal. Sutrisno romped home with his second gold of the day when he heaved 155kgs from the bench press.

He managed only 240kgs in the dead-lift for a bronze, bringing his total lift to 645kgs, the Indonesian Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Bodybuilding Association said in its press release yesterday.

Indonesia, bidding for four gold medals, sent a team comprising two men and two women in the four-day Asian meet held in the capital city of Kazakhstan. (amd)
