Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers' Union Meets Dasco, Requests PPPK Appointment

The Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers’ Association (IGTKI-PGRI) held an audience with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 30 July 2026. The meeting was attended by IGTKI-PGRI Central Board Chairperson Eka Putri Handayani and her staff, alongside House Commission VI member Kawendra Lukistian.

Eka stated that IGTKI has approximately 350,000 members across Indonesia. She expressed gratitude for the warm reception from Dasco. The association conveyed several aspirations regarding the welfare of kindergarten teachers, particularly the fact that the majority still hold honorary status as they mostly work under private kindergarten institutions. They expressed hope that these teachers could be appointed as Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK).

Additionally, they requested that the inpassing programme be implemented evenly for all kindergarten teachers across Indonesia. Eka also voiced IGTKI-PGRI’s support for all government programmes, especially the plan to implement the 13-Year Compulsory Education programme starting from Kindergarten B.

Meanwhile, IGTKI Honour Council member Suhendri urged the DPR to promptly finalise the National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas). He emphasised that education advocacy is crucial in the regions to ensure Indonesian children receive a proper education in pursuit of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. Suhendri also called for broader competency improvement initiatives for teachers, both formal and non-formal, especially for those in remote areas, noting that many kindergarten teachers currently only hold high school or vocational school qualifications.
