The Middle Eastern conflict between Iran and the United States-Israel coalition has occurred not far from the location of Umrah pilgrims in the cities of Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia.

The conflict has had repercussions across several Middle Eastern nations. According to reports from 28 February 2026, Iran allegedly attacked US military bases in countries including Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Even oil refineries in Saudi Arabia have been affected by this conflict, resulting in fires.

However, based on the latest information, the situation in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, remains safe and under control.

One Indonesian Umrah pilgrim who is also an influencer, Hendra Brudy, has confirmed that activities in Mecca are proceeding normally as usual.

“As for the atmosphere in Mecca, I am currently located in Mecca. Praise be to God, it is safe. Safe and still normal, under control, activities are still normal as they were before this information about the conflict,” said Hendra to Kompas.com via WhatsApp telephone call on Monday, 2 March 2026 at approximately 17:00 Saudi Arabian time.

He added that the atmosphere in Mecca is even bustling at the moment as it coincides with the month of Ramadan.

“And because it is Ramadan, it is very crowded, nothing has changed at all,” he added.

Hendra explained that he has recently completed his Umrah pilgrimage and is currently performing a proxy pilgrimage (badal umrah) for his late grandfather.

Additionally, there have been no advisories issued to Umrah pilgrims regarding the situation in the Middle East.

Nevertheless, Hendra acknowledged concerns expressed by some pilgrims who intend to return to their home countries. This relates to the potential cancellation of transit flights in countries involved in the conflict.

However, Hendra felt grateful because his return flight to Indonesia through Garuda Indonesia was a direct flight, thus eliminating concerns regarding cancellations.

“Information from the airline travel agent is that the flight is safe because the direct flight from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia is not affected,” he said.
