Members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) inspected the Bulog warehouse in North Sumatra to ensure that food supplies in the region remain stable.

The visit was to check food stocks such as rice and Minyakita,” said DPR RI Commission XII member Ade Jona Prasetyo in Medan on Monday.

Ade stated that from the monitoring at the Bulog North Sumatra warehouse, the current total rice stock reaches 63,000 tonnes and Minyakita amounts to 4.6 million litres.

Furthermore, he said that the 63,000 tonnes of rice stock is sufficient to meet needs for five months. Similarly, the Minyakita stock in North Sumatra is deemed safe.

“The inspection also aims to ensure that these food items are secure, so that shortages do not occur in every area,” he said.

The inspection was also conducted to anticipate the impact of El Niño, so that rice stock availability remains sufficient to meet the needs of the people in North Sumatra.

The Head of the Bulog North Sumatra Region, Budi Cahyanto, added that the government is currently very focused on providing food supplies to suppress market prices.

“The 63,000 tonnes of rice stock in the warehouse is strong enough to meet the needs of the people in North Sumatra. In addition, additional rice can also be requested from the centre to strengthen food reserves,” he said.

He stated that the rice stock in the warehouse is also strengthened by the absorption of dry harvested grain (GKP) at the farmer level in North Sumatra.

The inspection was also attended by DPR RI member Husni, Deputy Chairman of the North Sumatra DPRD Ikhwan Ritonga, and North Sumatra DPRD member Beni Harianto Sihotang.
