Indonesian House of Representatives Follows Up Workplace Accident Cases at VDNI and OSS with Ministry of Manpower
Kendari (ANTARA) — Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is following up on findings related to workplace accident cases at mining companies PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (VDNI) and PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (OSS) with the Ministry of Manpower.
Commission XII member Rocky Candra, speaking in Kendari on Friday, said the commission is currently investigating workplace accident cases at the two mining companies. As of Friday (11 July), there have been 13 workplace accidents at the companies.
"The third issue concerns workplace accidents. We have received data showing that at OSS alone, there have already been 12 workplace accidents in 2025, plus one more today, bringing the total to 13," he said.
Rocky Candra revealed that one of the purposes of meeting with the two companies, which are part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) programme, was to obtain information regarding environmental pollution cases and workplace accidents within their operational areas.
"The occupational safety of employees at these companies must be given the utmost attention," he said.
He explained that his party does not accept the explanation offered by PT VDNI and PT OSS that workplace accidents were caused by human error. According to him, the regulations applied by these companies do not apply solely to these two firms but to all companies operating in Indonesia.
"Local workers from the surrounding area must be trained and looked after. If workplace accidents are occurring, it means there is an inadequate system being implemented by the company and its management," Rocky Candra said.
He called on the companies to treat every workplace accident case as an opportunity for corporate self-correction. The commission will also seek follow-up action from the Ministry of Manpower regarding these cases.
"We shall see what position the Ministry of Manpower takes on this matter," he explained.
