Indonesian Home Decor Products Exhibited in Tokyo
Indonesian home decor products were exhibited at Interior Lifestyle Tokyo (ILT), held from 10 to 12 June 2026 in the Japanese capital. The fair is known as a primary sourcing event for buyers, retailers, interior designers, architects, hospitality services, and importers and distributors seeking new products for the Japanese market.
“Indonesia is currently in the right position to meet the Japanese market’s needs for sustainable, high-quality interior and lifestyle products with a strong narrative and social value,” said Maria Renata Hutagalung, Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan, in a statement on Friday. Speaking at the inauguration of the Indonesian Pavilion at ILT 2026, she added, “It not only showcases traditional-based creations but also the use of natural raw materials that reinforce the concept of a circular economy in the production process.”
Nine Indonesian businesses joined the booth, which was designed as a gallery called Rumah Indonesia. They were selected through a series of screenings by the Ministry of Trade in cooperation with the Indonesia Design and Development Centre. The selection process considered sustainable lifestyle product design concepts, traceability, storytelling, quality, and hospitality elements.
Visitors showed interest in the variety of raw materials used, including teak wood, rattan, bamboo, banana stem, water hyacinth, and other natural materials. These natural elements were creatively produced into home decor items that match the tastes and trends of Japanese consumers.
Prior to participating in ILT 2026, the businesses conducted product pitching to assess product readiness and took part in business matching with Japanese enterprises as an initial exploration. “This is done with the hope that they can be matched and reach trade agreements during the exhibition,” said Merry Astrid Indriasari, Trade Attaché in Tokyo, accompanied by Didit Akhdiat Suryo, Head of ITPC Osaka.
Through this exhibition, the businesses can also explore opportunities for design cooperation and collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, in line with Japanese design trends that increasingly combine natural elements, craftsmanship, sustainability, and traditional materials with a contemporary approach. Indonesia’s furniture and home decor exports to Japan reach approximately 135 million US dollars per year. With Japan’s increasing demand for sustainable products, natural materials, and high-quality craftsmanship, Indonesia has a significant opportunity to expand its market share through wooden furniture, rattan, and eco-friendly home decor products that were the main trends at ILT 2026.
