Indonesian Healthcare Travel Revenue in Malaysia Hits Record RM2.2 Billion, MHX Returns to Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) is further strengthening its reach in Indonesia through MHX Yogyakarta 2026, held from 20–23 August 2026 at the Grand Atrium, Pakuwon Mall Jogja. The four-day event comes after the Indonesian market recorded a healthcare travel revenue of RM2.2 billion in 2025, up 24% from the previous year. The event, targeting healthcare consumers, demonstrates Malaysia Healthcare’s commitment to bringing quality and trusted healthcare services closer to the Indonesian public, as well as expanding its reach in one of Indonesia’s rapidly growing regional growth centres. As part of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 campaign with the theme ‘Healing Meets Hospitality’, MHX Yogyakarta 2026 further strengthens Malaysia’s position as a preferred destination for healthcare travel, combining world-class medical expertise, attentive patient care, and accessible, integrated healthcare services.
Yogyakarta has become one of the strategic markets for Malaysia Healthcare. This potential is supported by a highly educated population, a surge in demand for specialist doctor services, and direct connectivity with Kuala Lumpur. This situation opens opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the health sector between Malaysia and Indonesia while expanding Indonesian patients’ access to various specialist medical services.
Rahmatullah Baragau, Head of Indonesia Market at MHTC, said, ‘Indonesia has always been the closest and most strategic market for Malaysia Healthcare. Yogyakarta offers attractive opportunities as public awareness of health and demand for specialist medical services increases. Through MHX Yogyakarta 2026, we aim to strengthen public trust in Malaysia Healthcare and bring our trusted healthcare ecosystem closer to the local community.’
More than 15 MHTC member hospitals are participating by introducing various advantages of Malaysian healthcare services, ranging from cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, fertility, health screening, gastroenterology, to other specialist services.
Participating hospitals include Island Hospital Penang, Institut Jantung Negara, Mahkota Medical Centre, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists, Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, GenPrime Everlink Fertility Centre, Hospital Picaso, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2, KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital, MSU Medical Centre, Optimax Eye Specialist Centre, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Pantai Hospital Penang, Penang Adventist Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre Damansara, Sunway Medical Centre Penang, Sunway Medical Centre Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara.
Indonesia remains the largest market for Malaysia Healthcare. In 2025, the number of healthcare traveller arrivals from Indonesia reached 968,000, up 16% from the previous year. This growth demonstrates the continued trust of Indonesian patients in Malaysian healthcare services. MHX Yogyakarta 2026 is part of MHTC’s strategy to build long-term partnerships with the public, health sector stakeholders, and local institutions across various regions of Indonesia. This step also supports the MYMT 2026 target of making Malaysia a preferred healthcare travel destination in the global market.
Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), established in 2009 and under the purview of Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH), develops the ‘Malaysia Healthcare’ brand. MHTC optimises, drives, and promotes the healthcare travel industry through industry collaboration and public-private partnerships, both domestically and internationally. Supported by 91 member hospitals across Malaysia, MHTC continues to strengthen the healthcare travel ecosystem through branding strategies, integrated patient experiences, and targeted market initiatives. In line with these efforts, MHTC is holding Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 as the first momentum in Malaysia to strengthen and accelerate the promotion of the domestic healthcare travel sector. In addition to promoting the advantages of Malaysian healthcare services in the global market, MYMT 2026 strengthens Malaysia’s status as one of the world’s leading healthcare service destinations. The initiative also highlights the contribution of the healthcare services sector to Malaysia’s national economy.
