Jakarta - The Indonesian government has responded positively to reports of an agreement reached between the United States (US) and Iran. This is seen as a positive development towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict, advancing peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.

"We commend the efforts of all parties and mediators who have contributed constructively in facilitating dialogue and encouraging the peaceful settlement of differences," stated a post on the official X account of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cited on Tuesday (16/6/2026).

Furthermore, Indonesia urged all parties to continue exercising restraint, uphold their commitments, and engage constructively in dialogue to maintain the momentum towards de-escalation.

"Indonesia looks forward to the implementation of this agreement and reaffirms its readiness to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, in accordance with international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter," wrote the Kemlu_RI account.

For context, US President Donald Trump and Iranian representatives have announced the achievement of an agreement following lengthy, tough negotiations between the two sides.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will subsequently be signed on Friday (19/6) in Switzerland. Currently, the MoU has not been officially published, but several points of the US-Iran agreement have been conveyed.

One of the points concerns the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in coordination with Oman, the withdrawal of the US military blockade from Iranian ports, and the cessation of all military operations by both countries.

Also discussed were the lifting of US sanctions against Iran, the transfer of frozen Iranian funds by the US, and Tehran’s nuclear programme, which will be discussed further.
