The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea have signed a cooperation agreement in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital government. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) provides a framework for AI development in the public sector and public services. The MoU was signed by Rini Widyantini, Indonesia’s Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), and Yun Hojung, Minister of Interior and Safety (MOIS) of South Korea, in Seoul, South Korea, on Friday, 22 May 2026. Rini said the MoU would serve as the basis for policy dialogue, technical collaboration, institutional capacity-building, and the exchange of expertise. The cooperation is seen as relevant to the bureaucratic reform agenda being undertaken by the PANRB in Indonesia. Strengthening digital public infrastructure, digital population identity (IKD), interoperability between agencies, and the INAku service portal will be accelerated through sharing best practices with Korea. The so-called ‘Ginseng Nation’ is recognised as one of the countries with the best digital government ecosystems in the world. More broadly, the MoU also supports Indonesia’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Indonesia regards this accession not merely as a procedural step, but as a strategic opportunity to strengthen governance quality, raise institutional standards, and accelerate reforms that have tangible impacts on society. During the occasion, Rini expressed appreciation to MOIS and to various parties who have collaborated to realise this bilateral partnership. “We are committed to translating this memorandum of understanding into concrete results with real impact, not just documents on paper,” she asserted.
