Indonesian Foreign Ministry Welcomes US-Iran Peace Deal, Urges De-escalation

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling on all parties to exercise restraint to maintain the momentum for de-escalation. “Indonesia welcomes reports of the agreement reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran as a positive development towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict and advancing peace, security, and stability in the region,” the ministry stated on its X account on Monday (15/6/2026). The ministry expressed appreciation for the role of all parties and mediators who contributed to achieving the peace. “We commend the efforts of all parties and mediators who have contributed constructively in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution of differences,” the statement read. “Indonesia urges all parties to continue to exercise restraint, uphold their commitments, and engage constructively in dialogue to maintain the momentum towards de-escalation.” Furthermore, Indonesia hopes the peace agreement can be implemented promptly and reaffirmed its readiness to support peace efforts in the region in accordance with international law. “Indonesia looks forward to the implementation of this agreement and reaffirms its readiness to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, in accordance with international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” the ministry added. The United States and Iran have reached a deal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, bringing relief to the global economy more than three months after the conflict began. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who acted as the primary mediator, stated the agreement was reached after lengthy talks, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled in Switzerland on Friday, 19 June 2026.
