Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) between Indonesia and China on Friday will focus on economic partnership, although the details of the topics to be discussed are still being finalised.

According to the Ministry’s Director for East Asian Affairs, Arifianto Sofiyanto, the Indonesia-China strategic partnership has five main pillars: politics, economy, people-to-people relations, maritime affairs, and security.

“However, for this CSD discussion, it has been agreed that the emphasis will be on economic partnership,” Arifianto said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Ministry official said that while the dialogue will cover all five pillars of strategic cooperation, the allocation of discussion time for each pillar will vary.

As the details are still under discussion, he admitted that he could not yet provide further explanation regarding the specific issues to be raised at Friday’s meeting.

“The more detailed issues for discussion are still in the process of being finalised between the two parties,” he said.

Arifianto explained that the meeting is the first dialogue conducted by Indonesia with another country under the CSD mechanism following the elevation of Indonesia-China relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

He revealed that the initiative was agreed upon during Foreign Minister Sugiono’s visit to Beijing in April 2025, which was also a follow-up to the earlier agreement between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

For this CSD, the Chinese delegation is confirmed to be accompanied by a number of deputy minister-level officials in the economic field.

Therefore, Indonesia is also preparing for the attendance of deputy ministers so that they can serve as interlocutors for the Chinese delegation in Friday’s CSD dialogue, he said.

On the same day, following the CSD meeting, a Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting—commonly referred to as the “2+2” format—will be held between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Sugiono, as well as Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun.

Earlier, at a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that Indonesia and China will focus their discussions in the inaugural CSD on development and modernisation.

“Both sides will focus on better synergy between development strategies, explore practical measures to deepen the China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and strengthen the modernisation of each country,” Lin Jian said.
