Indonesian Foreign Ministry confirms all Indonesian citizens in Nepal are safe following disaster

The Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Emigration, Heni Hamidah, stated that all Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Nepal are currently in good condition following the flash floods and landslides on 26 August.

“Monitoring of the condition of all Indonesian citizens shows they are all in good health,” Heni told the media online in Jakarta on Monday.

She noted that the Indonesian nationals in question include 45 residents and 6 tourists currently located in the Pokhara region of Nepal.

Furthermore, Heni provided an update on the number of people affected by the disaster in Nepal, reporting that 2,426 people are missing, 4,451 have been safely evacuated, and 101 are receiving hospital treatment. Among foreign tourists from 32 countries reported missing or out of contact due to the disaster, 184 have been successfully rescued, while another 420 foreign tourists remain unreachable due to network disruptions.

The flash flood disaster struck Nepal on Wednesday (26/8) when a glacier on Mount Langtang Lirung, Nepal, cracked at an altitude of approximately 5,200 metres.

The glacier crack triggered ice and rock slides that developed into massive debris flows, sweeping through valleys along the border.

The massive waves of water, along with mudslides, destroyed the regions of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Kavre, and the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, and also buried the Gyirong border area on the Chinese side.
