Indonesian Foreign Minister Welcomes Turkish Foreign Minister to Jakarta
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan upon his arrival in Jakarta on Tuesday night for an official visit on Wednesday. In a statement shared via the @Menlu_RI social media account, Sugiono described Indonesia and Türkiye as two nations characterised by solidarity and mutual support. “Indonesia deeply appreciates Türkiye’s steadfast support and solidarity in defending our shared principles,” the Indonesian Foreign Minister stated.
The visit aims to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation, including the enhancement of trade and defence relations, as well as addressing regional and global security challenges. According to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan will focus on deepening cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, transport, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, high technology, and the halal food industry. The objective is to boost bilateral trade volume to $10 billion (approximately Rp178.3 trillion).
Furthermore, Fidan is expected to review ongoing defence industry projects and assess potential new areas for collaboration. Regarding the situation in Gaza, Fidan will reaffirm that Türkiye and Indonesia remain in close dialogue concerning developments in Palestine and will continue joint efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. The agenda also includes discussions on developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the Russia-Ukraine war, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya, alongside broader regional and global security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
