Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's support for Palestine during a meeting with Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, in New York on Monday (16 February).

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement on Tuesday that the meeting at the Palestinian Mission was conducted in a warm atmosphere and covered developments in the current situation in Palestine as well as progress in the peace process.

The meeting was held ahead of a UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, scheduled for Wednesday (18 February).

At the outset of the meeting, Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to advancing a just and sustainable peace. Indonesia also stressed the importance of the Two-State Solution to ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Riyad Mansour expressed his appreciation for the Foreign Minister's presence in New York and said the visit strengthened the solidarity between the two nations in pushing for concrete UN action amid the difficult situation facing the Palestinian people.

He affirmed that Indonesia holds a special place in the hearts of the Palestinian people, with close historical ties dating back to the birth of the Bandung Principles (Dasasila Bandung) in 1955.

The two diplomats also exchanged views on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), particularly the establishment of a Board of Peace (BoP) and plans to deploy an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

Mansour expressed his belief that Indonesia could play a constructive role in both initiatives to advance the Two-State Solution.

"We are ready to contribute further, including preparing for the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces to Gaza, which could begin with health assistance and reconstruction," Sugiono said.

At the close of the meeting, the Foreign Minister outlined plans for President Prabowo Subianto's participation in a Peace Council meeting in Washington this week alongside a number of world leaders, including those from the Developing Eight (D8) group of nations.

"The President of Indonesia's participation aims to ensure that every decision taken is in line with the UN Charter and existing multilateral efforts, in order to pave the way for a just and lasting peace," Sugiono said.
